I never read those Song of Ice & Fire books...
...but apparently they have quite a following, and now HBO is going to turn each one into a whole season of shows. Whoa!

If HBO were doing Diamond Age I would be much more optimistic about it.

This is good news. George R. R. Martin is involved in the writing and he mentioned that if they'd made them into movies it would have required 18 of them to tell the story.

A series is a good fit for this. HBO is a better fit. As I mentioned to [info]megachef, it was probably pitched as "Rome meets Deadwood".

And, yes, I'm part of that following. The books are good and the characters are all interesting and well fleshed out. You couldn't tell the story properly on any place with less freedom than HBO or Showtime would give you. If they get the right people on this it will rock.

Oh, man. You might enjoy them (well, perhaps "enjoy" is too strong a word for such dark books). And besides they constitute the road to my 15 minutes of fame, for being an author of the d20 RPG based on them.
